Three Jovial Huntsmen by Susan Jeffers

Three Jovial Huntsmen (Mother Goose Rhyme)Three Jovial Huntsmen by Susan Jeffers

Published by MacMillan in 1973

Caldecott Honor

Summary:
Three men go hunting but come home empty handed. The illustrations tell the reader that the men were not very observant or they might have been much more successful!

Ideas for use in library:
Unfortunately, this is one I would have to skip using in the library. The pictures are interesting and yield more information than the words themselves say, but the almost monochromatic detail would be difficult to comprehend in a group setting. The language is old, which might be okay to share, but I was annoyed by some of the phrasing (like rhyming "find" with "wind").

Curriculum connections:
Language Arts: possibly use to teach poetry with this nursery rhyme.
