The Graphic Alphabet by David PelletierPublished by Orchard in 1996
Caldecott Honor
Summary: Very neat ABC book. Letters are created to visually represent a word that starts with that letter. For example, a red D (with serifs) turned on the curved side represents the word "devil."
Ideas for use in library:
Alphabet book; simpler concept and vocabulary that some of the other ABC books reviewed.
Curriculum connections:
Using several of the ABC books reviewed, compare and contrast approaches the authors take (CCSS.ELA-Literacy.CCRA.R.9)
Special features:
Author gives an explanation of the inspiration and his self-imposed restrictions for creating the letters.
Accessed via Saint Joseph School library.
