Summary:
A young boy gets a job lighting the streetlamps, which angers his father who thinks his son should be able to find better work in America. Peppe enjoyes his work and takes pride in the work he does. But dejected by his father's insults, he quits. His father finally recognizes the dignity of his work when the youngest daughter is lost in the dark and needs Peppe to light the lamps so she can find her way home.
