This is a fun new series following up the Percy Jackson series. This time we meet Sadie & Carter Kane, siblings who have been raised apart since the death of their mom. Carter travels the world with his Egyptologist dad, while Sadie lives in London with her maternal grandparents. they only see each other on Christmas day. Until one year when their dad takes them to a midnight meeting at the British Museum where they destroy the Rosetta stone and witness a fearsome creature unleashed and their dad encased in a gold casket and swallowed by the earth. Welcome to the world of Egyptian mythology!
This is an action packed beginning to a fun new series from Riordan. It was very cool reading about the Egyptian gods, which I know much less about than the Greek gods. There were some fun references to the Olympians and my favorite sequence in the book took the kids to my hometown, Memphis, TN. Loved their adventures at some familiar sites including Graceland.
I liked the narration, which was as a transcribed tape from the kids alternating between Sadie & Carter speaking.
