This is a fun series about a brother & sister who discover a magic tree house in the woods near their home. Inside the tree house are hundreds of books. When they look at a book, it literally takes them on fantastic journeys around the world and through time. Their adventures are missions for Morgan le Fay, the Magical Librarian of Camelot. Later in the series they meet Merlin the magician who sends them on missions.
This has been a great for read aloud with my 4 year old and would be super chapter books for elementary school kids with some reading experience. My son is now fully into this series, and wants to buy them all from our used book store. We're reading out of order, but it doesn't matter.
I love this series because it has really brought my son up in his attention span for listening to stories. We can now read 4-5 chapters in a sitting. They have also introduced great eras from history and places around the world (and beyond!) My only problem with the early books is the fragmented writing style ("The huge dinosaur was towering above Annie. Waving her arms. Making her tuba sound."). I don't notice it as much in the later books, so maybe the author stops.
