Five in a Row

Today one of my favorite blogs, Simple Mom, discussed a reading program called "Five in a Row" on her homeschool channel.  While the program is designed for homeschool families, the concept behind it can be used in any educational setting and for all age groups.  The idea is that you read the same book five days in a row and delve deeper into different aspects of the story each day.   For example, using the book Madeline by Ludwig Bemelmans, you could introduce mathematical concepts of grouping and division by talking about the girls lined up in pairs. Other days you could discuss geography (Paris and the many landmarks seen in the book), poetry and art.   What an brilliant way to encourage kids to enjoy books to their fullest!
